“The Science Foundation Ireland funded ADAPT centre focuses on developing next generation digital technologies that transform how people communicate by helping to analyse, personalise and deliver digital data more effectively for businesses and individuals. ADAPT researchers are based in four HEIs: Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, University College Dublin and Dublin Institute of Technology. ADAPT’s transformative tools allow you explore video, text, speech and image data in a natural way across languages and devices, helping companies unlock opportunities that exist within digital content to re-imagine how to connect people, process and data to realise new economic value.
The School of Computing hosts ADAPT within DIT where ADAPT benefits from the School of Computing’s special blend of world class experience in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence with a passion for Industry Engagement. Researchers from the School are involved in both Platform and Applied or Targeted research within ADAPT. Within the platform projects, DIT researchers are involved in two of the four ADAPT themes, and investigate issues of semantic representation, image to text translation, and dialogue modelling amongst other tasks. School of Computing academic staff have also collaborated heavily with other members of the Adapt team on Targeted Projects including those with the automotive and healthcare industries.
This research activity showcases the School of Computing’s national and international research activity and provides opportunities both for DIT and ADAPT. The ADAPT Centre will later in 2018 submit a proposal for a further 5 years of funding from SFI and School of Computing staff are busily engaged in helping to shape this future.
